Dr Michiel Poesen

Member

Dr Michiel Poesen will join the Centre for Private International Law at the University of Aberdeen as a lecturer in September 2022. He currently is a postdoctoral research fellow of the KU Leuven Research Council and a fixed-term lecturer at KU Leuven (Belgium). Michiel has held visiting teaching and research positions at the University of Edinburgh, Maastricht University, Heidelberg University, ELTE Budapest and Hasselt University.

The unifying theme of Michiel’s current research is the interaction and tension between conflicting economic and non-economic aims in EU private international law, and more broadly the regulatory role of private international law. From this angle, his work brings EU private international law to bear on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in cross-border private and commercial legal relationships.
