Dr Lorna Gillies

Lorna is Associate Professor in Law at Edinburgh Napier University. Lorna obtained her LLB(Hons), Dip LP and PhD all from the University of Strathclyde. Prior to joining ENU, Lorna was a Lecturer in Commercial Law at the University of Strathclyde and Senior Lecturer in Law at both the Universities of Leicester and Essex. Lorna's principal research and teaching interests are in international private law or 'conflict of laws'. Specifically, Lorna is interested in the interaction between jurisdiction, internet regulation, the protection of weaker parties and (digital) fundamental rights. In 2021-22, Lorna has devised and initiated a new compulsory LLB Module at ENU entitled "Law and Technology" which seeks to engage LLB students with the interaction of technology on internet regulation, rights in society and legal practice. Lorna is a member of the European Association of Private International Law and an academic member of the Law Society of Scotland's Working Party on Private International Law.
