On the 26th of May (h. 14.00-15.00), Dr Patricia Živković (University of Aberdeen) will hold a presentation as part of our series of (en)lightening talks on Social, Legal, and Ethical Implications of Machines Learning about Our Emotions and Intentions.
Dr Živković will present on "Social, Legal, and Ethical Implications of Machines Learning about Our Emotions and Intentions"
Abstract:
With the wide use of machine learning in today’s world, we are fast approaching new ethical and legal issues every day. This talk will focus specifically on the current state of regulation of emotion/affect recognition. Dr Živković will showcase the use of such machines in today’s society and their potential in the future. She will explain further the ethical concerns raised by these applications and discuss the status of the current and future regulations in the field, focusing mainly on the current EU Proposal for AI Act.
Patricia is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, University of Aberdeen. She teaches international dispute resolution, the regulation of biometric data and profiling, and data privacy.
This event will be moderated by Dr Pin Lean Lau. Pin Lean is a Lecturer in Bio-Law at Brunel Law School, Brunel University London, and a researcher at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence: Social & Digital Innovations. She teaches AI, Ethics and Law; and Law, Science & Technology Studies. She also teaches about algorithmic bias, power, and discrimination, in the MSc in AI Strategy in Brunel Business School.
